The Mercado Apartment community is a centerpiece of the new Downtown Specific Plan Area for Perris, California. The historic railroad town, founded in the late 19th Century is seeking to revitalize the downtown and the new 60-unit affordable family complex serves as a catalyst for future development of the Mercado District. Working with a constricted 2.5 acre site at the edge of the town’s commercial district, the plan links three buildings together around the courtyard with horizontal circulation, while the parking on the railroad side of the buildings provides an aesthetic and acoustic barrier for the residents.
