Hi-Shear, part of Lisi Aerospace, is a leading manufacturer of precision mechanical fasteners for the aerospace and defense industries. Working as a part of a design-build team with Oltmans Construction Company, Withee Malcolm Architects provided programming/site analysis through design and construction of a new state-of-the-art chemical plating facility on Lisi’s 14-acre campus. This multi-faceted project entailed the demolition of the original plating facility and the design and construction of a new 3,600-square-foot wastewater treatment plant.

The project challenges included environmental concerns, the handling of hazardous materials, as well as their eventual treatment and disposal and therefore required close coordination with various environmental agencies—the fire department, and due to the site’s adjacency to the Torrance Airport, the Federal Aviation Administration. The project was delivered on a phased approach, to facilitate continuous production for the client.
