Bloomington Grove Senior Apartments
Located in a redevelopment area in an unincorporated area of San Bernardino County, the new residentially anchored mixed-use is designed to catalyze change in the area. The intergenerational residential development, to be built on 9 acres of County land, will include 190 units of affordable senior housing and affordable family housing, as well as a public branch library, social services and recreational areas.
Phase One consists of 70-units for seniors, a 6,500-square-foot public library, and a 2,200-square-foot senior community space. The three-story senior residence sets the stage with a California Mission style design featuring stucco walls, balconies, shutters and classic red roofs — the original vernacular architecture of the region. The initial phase also includes 36 family units, a 2,625-square-foot community center and classroom facility. Phase two will consist of the remaining 84 family units. The new affordable community will lease one, two, and three-bedroom units.
Achieving the successful integration of the mix of public social uses and housing for multiple generations on a single site was key to community acceptance and to the ultimate revitalization of the former industrial district.
